Presidential 2022: Lee ahead of Yoon by 10 points in a poll

SEOUL, 07 Jan. (Yonhap) – Lee Jae-myung, the official presidential candidate of the ruling Democratic Party (PD), is ahead of his opponent Yoon Suk-yeol of the People’s Power Party (PPP) by 10 points of percentage, two months before the electoral deadline, showed this Friday a poll of Gallup Korea.

Lee got 36% of the voting intentions, while Yoon got 26%, according to the poll of 1,002 adults from Tuesday to Thursday.

Ahn Cheol-soo, the candidate of the People’s Party (PP), an opposition party, took third place with 15%, a level he had never reached so far.

Sim Sang-jeung, candidate for the Justice Party (PJ), a progressive party, was fourth with 5%. The other candidates together obtained 3%.

The poll came at a time when the PPP was mired in an internal feud as Yoon disbanded his campaign team for a complete overhaul.

Ahn is currently rising in popularity as more young voters turn to him as the election campaigns of leading candidates come under fire, analysts have said.

When it comes to positive opinions, Ahn took the top spot with 38%, followed by Lee with 36% and Yoon with 25%.

In addition, the popularity rating of President Moon Jae-in has reached 41% and the proportion of respondents who disapprove of his action rose to 50%.

Popular support for PD reached 34% and support for PPP 29%, poll showed

The survey has a 3.1 percentage point margin of error and a 95% confidence level.
