“Of course, I will not vote Macron”, breath Brigitte Bareges. “The individual disturbs me”. Two days before the second round of the 2022 presidential election, the heart of the mayor (LR) of Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne) balance.
Emanuel Macron? “A man (…) as contemptuous as he is sufficient”
Asked by Toulouse News Friday, April 22 on the sidelines of a press conference devoted to the Lantern Festival which will move to his city at the end of 2022, the former muse of the regional right, who was head of the UMP list in 2010 at the time of Midi- Pyrenees – and who became mayor of Montauban again last December, after being cleared by the courts -, had little taste for the performance and attitude of Emmanuel Macron during the televised debate between the two rounds . She portrays an unflattering portrait of the president-candidate: “He is sorely lacking in humility and benevolence,” she said. And this confrontation between the two finalists in the race for the Élysée seems to have sealed his opinion on the subject…
“I was expecting the debate between Macron and Le Pen, but I found a man who was execrable, arrogant, as contemptuous as he was smug”.
School, health, safety, wind turbines… Nothing suits him at Macron
Besides the form, Brigitte Barèges also deplores the content of the outgoing president’s speech: “He said nothing about schoolnor so sure health, a sector in distress”. Just as little to his liking: Emmanuel Macron’s program on ” Security et l’immigrationtwo subjects which are major for me and on which he has had alarming results”.
Finally, she castigates Emmanuel Macron’s position on wind turbinesthe president having clearly indicated that unlike his rival, he did not want to dismantle them, but that he was counting on the contrary… to set up 50 wind farms at sea by 2050. Here again, Brigitte Barèges wants to be closer to Marine Le Pen that of Emmanuel Macron: “These are iron monsters which massacre the landscape”, storm the chosen one.
Vote for Le Pen? “I don’t know, I will make my choice on Sunday”
If Brigitte Barèges does not make a mystery that she will not choose the ballot of the candidate of the Republic in March, what will she do in the voting booth on Sunday? “I don’t know if I will vote blank, or even if I will vote,” says the mayor of this city of 61,000 inhabitants, the sixth largest city in Occitania. Is she ready to Vote Marine Le Pen ? To this question, the mayor of the city of Ingres replies: ” I do not know. I will make my choice on Sunday.
What are the Republicans saying for the second round?
The Republicans did not officially give voting instructions for Sunday, but the day after the first round, the party’s political bureau announced after a crisis meeting: “No vote can be cast on Marine Le Penn”.
Their candidate Valerie Pécresse, eliminated in the first round with a score never seen for the right in a national election (4.78%), indicated that she would “vote in conscience” for Emmanuel Macron in order to block the far right. A choice shared by the mayor (LR) of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc, castigating in passing “the errors” of his party, which he judges for his part… far too far to the right (contrary to Brigitte Barèges, who finds him “too centrist”).
But other elected officials, such as the deputy for Alpes-Maritimes Eric Ciotti, and who embody the right fringe of LR, have clearly said, like Brigitte Barèges, that they would not vote Macron for anything in the world. While the recomposition on the right seems more than ever in motion, will they cross the Rubicon?
