Details: Zelensky noted the importance of Cape Verde’s principled position in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, condemnation of Russian aggression, as well as concrete steps by Cape Verde to support Ukrainian international initiatives.

In particular, Cape Verde supported the resolution of the 11th emergency session of the UN General Assembly on March 2, 2022 to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as demands for Russia to stop aggressive actions and withdraw troops from the territory of our state. Previously, Cape Verde supported the UN General Assembly resolution of March 27, 2014 calling on the countries of the world not to recognize the annexation of Crimea by Russia. The President thanked for the support, in particular at the UN.

Zelensky invited the Prime Minister of Cape Verde to join the work on implementing the Ukrainian peace formula. Special attention was paid to the implementation of its individual points, the preparation of the fourth meeting at the level of advisers on security and foreign policy, as well as the Global Peace Summit.

The President expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of Cape Verde for supporting the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative, and briefed him on the work to expand a new export corridor and create grain hubs in Africa.

He also informed his interlocutor about Russia’s unsuccessful attempts to interfere with civilian shipping in the Black Sea, noting that after the restart of the alternative “grain corridor”, more than 7 million tons of food had already been transported through it.

The leaders paid attention to intensifying relations between Ukraine and African countries, strengthening interaction within the framework of participation in international forums, and also agreed on a schedule of bilateral contacts for the near future.

Zelensky invited the head of the government of Cape Verde to visit Ukraine.
