President Zelensky Visits Frontline Troop Post near Bakhmut in Ukraine

BAKHMUT, KOMPAS.com – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday (29/7/2023) visited the frontline troop post near Bakhmut.

“Towards Bakhmut, Special Operations Forces advanced position,” Zelensky said on messaging app Telegram.

“I am here to congratulate our fighters on their professional day, to honor their strength,” he continued, quoted by the AFP news agency.

Zelensky said he had no right to disclose details of the current special forces operation.

He only heard the commander’s report and spoke to the troops, praising their performance.

Ukraine last month began a counterattack after stockpiling Western weapons and building up its offensive forces.

However, Kyiv acknowledged the battle was difficult and asked the United States and other allies to provide long-range weapons and artillery.

Ukrainian authorities say Kyiv troops are gradually advancing near the town of Bakhmut which Russian troops captured in May 2023.
