President Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Headquarters, where he discussed the situation at the front and the issues of passing the winter period under Russian attacks on critical infrastructure facilities.
The Ukrainian leader stated this in a video message following the results of October 6.
He began by holding a meeting of the Headquarters, which was “long” and had “several key issues” on the agenda.
— The first is, of course, the front. The situation in the main directions, reports from commanders, provision of shells and air defense,” he said.
The second question of the Headquarters was directly related to the defense and stability of Ukraine: the issue of energy and preparation for winter was discussed, as well as the protection of Ukrainian generation facilities and the provision of electricity and heat, the restoration of everything that was damaged by Russian strikes and military operations.
— The current leadership of Russia always does what it has already done before. They repeat all the mistakes. They repeat all the evil. And when they don’t succeed, they think that they allegedly did little evil to make it work. Such crazy logic. But we need to take this into account. This winter, Russian terrorists will again try to destroy our energy grid.. They are not able to accept the idea that Ukraine will not be conquered anyway. But they will try to make more shots and more attempts to bypass our defense. We are fully aware of the danger,” he said.
The head of state added that at Headquarters there were reports from the military and all officials who are responsible for protecting Ukraine’s energy sector and for winter tactics.
“Everything related to the physical protection of facilities, restoration, execution of orders, procedures in case of certain emergencies,” he said.
The Ukrainian leader added that “to win this winter, go through all the difficulties and give protection to our people is very important.” In addition, he warned local authorities that they must do their part of the preparatory work.
The President added that next week the current state of preparations for winter in the regions will be recorded.
“We are taking even more steps to strengthen our air defense and cooperate with partners for the sake of the sustainability of Ukrainian energy. This week has already strengthened us significantly,” he added.
The head of state recalled that over the past week, Germany, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, the Netherlands and the President of France have provided or stated that they plan to provide support for Ukraine in one form or another. Vladimir Zelensky thanked all states and their leaders who are helping Ukraine.
— We also cooperate fruitfully with the European Union. From all points of view, it is important for us to begin negotiations on EU membership this year. Ukraine has almost fulfilled the corresponding seven recommendations of the European Commission, and everything will be ready on our part. The Verkhovna Rada has one step left, and it is important that the deputies take this step.
The EU for Ukraine is not only economic security and a powerful contribution to resolving the issue of geopolitical stability. It’s also motivation. Motivation for us, for our warriors, for all our people. Motivation to fight, to be persistent, to get through this winter and achieve our national goals, despite any Russian terror,” he said.
Separately, the president dwelled on the issue of the Kharkov region, where Russia yesterday, October 5, dealt a brutal blow to a village in the Kupyansky district, as a result of which 51 people died, and the fate of three more remains unknown.
Zelensky also recalled the attack on the very center of Kharkov, as a result of which two people from the same family were killed.
— A 10-year-old boy and his grandmother. The boy’s younger brother, he is only 11 months old, and his parents are in the hospital. “My condolences to everyone whose family and friends were killed by Russia,” the president said.
The Ukrainian leader said that yesterday and today, state leaders and foreign ministers expressed condolences and condemned Russian terror.
“I am grateful to each and everyone who does not remain indifferent. Only together, in unity, can we overcome terror. And we will do it. States and leaders, peoples,” he said.
The President noted that many journalists, public figures and ordinary people supported Ukraine now and support it throughout this war, when Ukraine “extremely appreciates every show of support, every show of solidarity with us.”
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian victory over Russian terror will be a common victory for all people of the world, who, like the Ukrainians, will believe that evil and hatred must always lose.
