Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Igor Tansyura from the post of head of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and appointed Anatoly Barkhilevych in his place, Ukrinform reported.
The agency specifies that the relevant documents have been published on the president’s website, BTA reported.
The work of the Territorial Defense Forces covers the protection of critical infrastructure, prevention of sabotage, neutralization of enemy intelligence forces and overall maintenance of security in Ukraine. This unit must maintain security while the main armed forces are in full mobilization.
“To dismiss Igor Ivanovich Tansyura from the post of head of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” reads the decree. Major General Anatoly Barhilevich was appointed as the commander of the forces. The dancer was appointed to the post in May last year.
Since last year, the 54-year-old Barhilevich has served as chief of staff in eastern Ukraine, where fierce battles have been fought with tens of thousands of Russian-sent fighters since the invasion began in February 2022.
