President Zelensky Announces Radical Tax Reforms and Promises Tax Cuts

Just about taxes

President Volodymyr Zelensky promises a radical reform of the tax service and customs, tax cuts and minimization of contacts between officials and citizens, but in exchange for the closure of schemes and the good faith of taxpayers.

The President stated this on Tuesday during his speech in the Verkhovna Rada.

“Our goal is tax without tax officers, customs without customs officers. Automatic digital procedures,” the President of Ukraine said.

According to him, digitalization provides tremendous opportunities to simplify relations in the field of taxes, customs, where there is any contact between a citizen and an official, between business and an official.

At the same time, the President once again confirmed that he would like to reduce taxes. But this, according to him, will entail increased responsibility.

“Ukraine needs a new tax treaty between the state and society, the real legalization of property. But when Ukraine wins … tax cuts should mean increased tax integrity,” the president said.

At the same time, he also confirmed his words that such changes should take place after the war, because now, “during such a war and Ukraine’s obvious dependence on cooperation with financial donors,” Ukraine cannot afford this.

Reminder:

In March 2023, the IMF expressed the position that Ukraine should refrain from any tax changes until the end of the war if they reduce budget revenues.

After that, Zelensky said that he supported a radical tax reform, but after the war.
