President Yoon Seok-yeol visited Beomeosa Temple in Geumjeong-gu, Busan on the 22nd and said, “There are many difficult situations, but I will think of them as karma and work for the country and the people without hesitation. Even if stones are thrown, I will get hit.”

Presidential Office Spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeon said in a written briefing that day that President Yoon met with temple officials at Beomeosa Temple and said this.

President Yoon entered the main hall, made offerings at the incense burner, paid three obeisances to Buddha, and drank tea with Monk Jeong Yeo and Monk Noh, the heads of Beomeosa Temple. Monk Jeong Yeo said, “As we go through life, there are things that remain in our hearts and there are times when we shake ourselves. Rather than being shaken from the outside, we should not shake ourselves,” and added, “If we hold on to the wounds in our hearts too much, they become sick. “The mindset of emptying the space and filling it with new things will be helpful in running the government,” he said.

President Yoon said, “There are many difficult situations, but I will think of them as karma and work without hesitation for the country and the people. Even if stones are thrown, I will get hit.” Monk Jeong Yeo said, “It’s reassuring to see him persevere and not get caught up.”

Monk Noon presented the president with a scroll with the words “Mugumuae (I have no faults in life, so there is nothing to be caught about)” and the president said, “Thanks to the many teachings given by Beomeosa Temple to normalize the country, this country was able to stand upright.” He said. Monk Jeong Yeo said, “It is reassuring to see that you do not give in even in difficult situations.”

President Yoon mentioned Monk Jaseung’s death in November of last year and said, “At that time, he called me often and gave me a lot of courage, but I was greatly shocked.” In response, Monk Jeong Yeo said, “Like the saying, ‘If you endure once, you will smile for a long time,’ look at this phrase and overcome it wisely whenever you have a hard time while doing your job,” and placed a frame with ‘Gamgindae (endure and wait patiently)’ written on it. I gave it as a gift.

Beomeosa Temple is considered one of the three major temples in Yeongnam, along with Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon and Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan. In recognition of its role as a field hospital during the Korean War, it was designated as a national memorial facility along with Tongdosa Temple in 2023. The President’s Office announced that this is the second visit by a sitting president to Beomeosa Temple after former President Syngman Rhee.

On this day, President Yoon attended the 2024 Busan World Volunteer Conference held at the Busan Port International Convention Center in Dong-gu, Busan. There is analysis that President Yoon’s visit to Beomeosa Temple located in Geumjeong-gu after the event was a move conscious of the results of the October 16 by-election. The People Power Party won a landslide victory in the by-election for Geumjeong-gu Mayor in Busan. In particular, since Han Dong-hoon, representative of the People Power Party, is scheduled to visit Geumjeong-gu on the 23rd, some interpret that President Yoon may be trying to emphasize the credit for winning the election before Representative Han.

On this day, President Yoon also visited Choryang Market, a traditional market near Busan Station. Spokesperson Jeong said this was President Yoon’s fifth visit to the Busan traditional market.

President Yoon toured the market, encouraging merchants and Busan citizens, and also participated in a consumption promotion event to revitalize the area’s commercial districts. Before leaving the market, President Yoon said in front of citizens, “Seeing you in person like this makes me want to help you live a better life,” and added, “It breaks my heart to see you working so hard. “I will work harder,” he said.
