President Yoon Seok-yeol said on the 21st, “We will reexamine the redevelopment and reconstruction project procedures from the beginning so that more housing can be supplied to the city center.”
President Yoon said this at a residents’ meeting held at the Moa Town site in Jungnang-gu, Seoul on this day, saying, “We will quickly improve the residential environment by expanding government support so that small-scale maintenance projects can be more active.” Moa Town is a small-scale redevelopment project of old low-rise residential areas that are difficult to redevelopment on a large scale because they do not meet redevelopment requirements.
President Yoon walked around the Moatown project area and observed the aging residential facilities and environment in person, saying, “As the people are inconvenienced by the old houses that are still in the same condition as they were 30 years ago, we need to replace them with comfortable and safe houses.”
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who accompanied them, decided to review support measures to improve conditions for redevelopment and reconstruction projects and facilitate financing.
In particular, they announced that they would actively discover Moa Town and other candidate sites for redevelopment and reconstruction, and minimize tenant conflicts by dispatching a conflict coordinator and forming a consultative body to ensure that the socially disadvantaged are not left out during the redevelopment project.
President Yoon also visited a multi-generational house in Jungnang-gu where an elderly person in his 80s lives alone on this day when the strongest cold wave hit this winter. The President’s Office reported that President Yoon inquired about the well-being of the elderly living alone and toured their living conditions, including heating and water pipes.
President Yoon presented an electric blanket, winter blanket, gloves, and scarf.
