President Moon Jae-in will hold the first “untact (non-face-to-face) press conference” in history in accordance with the policy of distancing society due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) and explain the direction of state administration for the fifth year in power.

President Moon held a New Year’s press conference on the theme of “A country strong in crisis, a strong Korea” at the Blue House Chunchu Hall for about 100 minutes from 10 am on the 18th. It is expected to receive questions and answers from reporters.

It is also the first time that President Moon held a New Year’s press conference at the Chunchu Hall instead of the Blue House main building and guesthouse. Due to the spread of Corona 19, only 20 reporters attended the conference hall, and 100 people attended the press conference via video online. On the left and right and in front of President Moon’s seat, a multi-vision system was also installed that broadcasts the appearances of reporters attending by video.

The Blue House made every effort to prepare for the possibility of internet access and broadcasting accidents, such as conducting a rehearsal on the 17th, one day before the first untact press conference to be broadcast live across the country. It is reported that President Moon was also immersed in preparing for the interview by carefully reviewing the answers to the issues in each field without setting an official schedule for the press conference that will take place without a script. An official at the Blue House said, “We will conduct rehearsals four times until just before the President’s press conference on the 18th.” During the 88-minute Q&A session, President Moon will alternately receive questions from reporters who participated in the on-site and online video conference. The last three questions will be answered by selecting from among the questions sent to the chat window by reporters who have not been able to participate on-site or online. An official at the Blue House explained, “To prepare for the untouched press conference, related departments such as President Tak Hyun-min and the National Communication Chief’s Office were operated as an emergency work system for about a month.” At this New Year’s press conference, the issue of the special pardon for former President Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye is expected to attract the most attention. In addition, the Blue House explained that President Moon’s future plans for the real estate policy, which President Moon officially apologized for the first time on the 11th, will be revealed naturally.
