President UPR says the institution is ready to prevent the spread of coronavirus

The University of Puerto Rico (UPR), established an action plan to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-9), influenza and other diseases, as explained on Tuesday, its president doctor Jorge Haddock.

“At the University of Puerto Rico we have been closely monitoring this emergency and giving instructions to all the rectors to guarantee the health of our students and employees. Any student or employee presenting the symptoms will be directed to the Department of Medical Services from your unit or your primary doctor, and your area should be disinfected. To reinstate, you must present a medical certificate stating that you can return and that it does not represent a risk of infection, ”Dr. Haddock reported in written communication.

As part of the instructions issued by the president to deal with the emergency, official international travel was unauthorized and it was established that every student and employee must immediately report if they have traveled in any of the countries in the past 15 days under a Alert Level 3 and 4. If you have, you will have to provide a medical certificate stating that you can return to work. The enclosures must inform the Department of Health of Puerto Rico, according to the established protocols.

In addition, instructions were given to assist students who participate in exchange programs or collaborative agreements with institutions abroad. “Our students in other jurisdictions must follow the protocols, guidelines and guides of their receiving institution and the government of the country in which they are located. The exchange coordinators of the enclosures are in communication with the receiving institutions and with the participating students to know their status and guide them around all relevant aspects that we are already attending, ”said the president.

Similarly, the UPR works on the implementation of a systemic plan to guarantee the continuity of academic activities through the online education platforms of the enclosures and units, in case it is necessary to restrict mass activities, including classes face-to-face

“We reiterate the prevention measures, issued on February 5, 2020 to the rectors, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-9), influenza and other diseases. As instructed, they must ensure that all bathrooms have soap, blotting paper and accessible antibacterial liquid. The latter must also be available in the reception areas of the offices, ”stated Dr. Haddock.
