President Sergio Mattarella Joins Italian Musicians in Singing Volare at Afi Anniversary Ceremony

A choir to the tune of Volare closed the ceremony at the Quirinale for the 75th anniversary of Afi, the Italian Phonographic Association. At the end of the speeches, a jazz band played some songs, closing with Volare by Modugno. At that point, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella stood up, together with the audience, who began to sing the song. The musicians also gathered around Mattarella and started singing. Among them Amedeo Minghi, I Cugini di Campagna, Edoardo Vianello, Aleandro Baldi, i Blacks by chance, Mal, Beppe Vessicchio. Mattarella – who did not join in the singing – appeared very amused and involved. Then a little medley started. Approaching Mattarella, Vianello intoned the first words of the “Watussi” and the Campagna cousins ”Anima mia”. Applause and chants from those present. Mattarella smiled and greeted the artists warmly.
