/ world today news/ From May 26 to 28, the head of state Rumen Radev will visit the Vatican and the Italian Republic. The President will lead the Bulgarian delegation, which is traditionally received at an audience by the head of the Roman Catholic Church on the occasion of the Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, and of Slavic literature – May 24. During the visit, the head of state will visit the holy places for Bulgarians.
In order to pay tribute together to the work of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius in Rome, this year a delegation from the Republic of North Macedonia, led by President Stevo Pendarovski, will travel with the Bulgarian delegation.
On May 26, in Rome, the head of state Rumen Radev will pay tribute to the monument of the legendary Bulgarian voivode and revolutionary Captain Petko Voivoda. Later, the president will participate in the official opening of the “Bulgaria” gallery at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in the Italian capital. At the Representation of the European Commission in Rome, Presidents Rumen Radev and Stevo Pendarovski will attend the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency /BTA/ and the information agency of the Republic of North Macedonia MIA.
On May 27, the head of state Rumen Radev and the Bulgarian delegation will be received at an audience by His Holiness Pope Francis. A meeting of the Bulgarian President with the State Secretary of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, is also scheduled in the Vatican. In the Vatican Apostolic Library, President Radev will examine fragments of the recently discovered treatise “On the Antiquity of the Fatherland and on Bulgarian Affairs” by Archbishop Petar Bogdan Baksic.
Later in the day, the head of state will attend the Divine Liturgy in the Basilica of San Clemente, where the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius served for the first time in the Bulgarian language after the blessing of the alphabet and books by the Roman bishop Pope Adrian II. The tomb of Saint Cyril is located in the basilica. The liturgy will be celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony. Later that day, President Rumen Radev and RSM President Stevo Pendarovski, accompanied by their wives, will visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pope Adrian II blessed the Bulgarian alphabet in the 9th century.
In Rome, the Bulgarian head of state will pay his respects in front of the monument of Ivan Vazov and the monument of St. St. Cyril and Methodius, located in the courtyard of the Bulgarian embassy in the Italian capital. Rumen Radev will also visit the church “St. Pavel ala Regola”, provided for the worship of the Bulgarian community.
On May 28 President Rumen Radev will hold a meeting with his Italian colleague Sergio Mattarella.
The Bulgarian delegation for the visits to Rome and the Vatican includes the Minister of Culture Velislav Minekov, members of the public, representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, as well as the Catholic faith in Bulgaria. The head of state will be accompanied by his wife Desislava Radeva.
The delegation, led by the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, includes the Minister of Culture, Irena Stefovska, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Buyar Osmani.
