President Rumen Radev Calls for Early Convening of Newly Elected 49th National Assembly

President Rumen Radev has decided not to wait for the Easter holidays to pass and will convene the newly elected 49th National Assembly as early as this Wednesday, “24 Chasa” reports.

The first meeting of the newly elected MPs, at which they must take an oath and elect a chairman, will begin at 10 a.m. on April 12, Radev decided. The parties have already been notified as the presidency will officially announce the decision of the head of state on Monday.

It is not known what made Radev change his mind and call off the convening of parliament before Easter. However, it is probably related to the blocking of forming a government, after “Continuing the change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” categorically refused to support a cabinet with the mandate of the winners GERB.

The withdrawal of the first session to April 12 makes it impossible to coincide the increasingly likely new early elections for parliament with those for local government in the autumn.
