MOSCOW – President Vladimir Putin stated the west hopes to force Russia into submission by limiting its access to technology, but this is not going to happen.
“Our opponents hope that we will retreat or surrender, but this will not happen, as we often say in such cases,” he stressed at the Future Technology Forum event in Moscow on Thursday (13/7/2023).
“Russia will only move forward, in its own way, without isolating itself from anyone. Against external pressure, we will only respond by increasing the quality and efficiency of work and spreading freedom,” he said.
The technology embargo imposed by the West in 2022 is an attempt to force Russia to surrender its sovereignty and ability to chart its own historical course, according to the president.
Moscow responded in kind in 2014, when the first wave of sanctions became an incentive for the rapid development of domestic capabilities.
“The same positive processes that are happening with Russian agriculture are now happening with manufacturing and technology,” he said.
The Future Technology Forum, dubbed ‘Quantum Realm: Computing and Communications’, started on July 9 and will end on Friday.
The exhibition portion of the event, which is open to the public, starts on Thursday and features high-tech products from major Russian companies, from nuclear giant Rosatom to Sberbank.
