President Piñera’s approval falls again in the Cadem Survey: it went from 23% to 17%

It has been a tough week for the government in the polls. The coronavirus pandemic, the associated economic crisis and different confrontations in the political world have been reflected in the numbers of the Plaza Pública Cadem survey. According to this Sunday’s publication, President Piñera has only 17% approval.

Last week, the president was 23%. With this new result, it adds a drop of 10 percentage points in two weeks. The approval of his management has also been declining. According to the survey, this aspect went from 65% to 71% rejection.

Population concerns

Other concerns were present in the measurement. 76% of those surveyed think that their social position is at risk due to the economic crisis. Regarding the solutions proposed by the government, only 19% of those who know about the benefits plan for the middle class evaluated it positively. According to the survey, 80% knew or heard of the “Protection Plan for the middle class”.

Of them, 43% of evaluated it negatively. 36% on a regular basis and as we pointed out, only 19% evaluated it positively. 70% of those surveyed stated that they have had to face significant decreases in income at home. When asked about the quarantine term, 7% think it would be good to do it this month, 11% think it should be during August and the first fortnight in September, 24% choose it to be after September 18 and 56% don’t know or believes it is still uncertain.

Political characters

Regarding the figures of the political world, in the second week of July, 59% approved and 27% disapproved of the management of the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris. With these figures, there is no statistically significant difference from the previous week.

Regarding the “Approval of political figures”, Joaquín Lavín (mayor of Las Condes) continues to lead. He is followed in second place by Izkia Siches (president of the Medical College). This, without great differences between one week and another. In third place is the mayor of La Florida, Rodolfo Carter, followed by the mayor of Puente alto Germán Codina.

Sebastián Sichel, former Minister of Social Development and current President of Banco Estado joins the list, in fifth place with 52 points. A little further back, with 50 points, is Heraldo Muñoz, president of the PPD. It is closely followed in seventh place by Mario Desbordes, deputy and President of RN, who also shows an increase of 6 points compared to the previous week.

In last place is UDI President Jaqueline Van Rysselberghe with 13 points. It is followed by a tie between Marcela Cubillos (former minister of education) and her husband and RN senator, Andrés Allamand, both with 23 points in the penultimate place of the approval of political figures this week.
