President of the FIA: Reflections on Delegation and Progress in Motorsports

The man has a motto: to serve and not to be served “. A voluntarism which has not always been the best perceived since taking office on December 17, 2021. Perceived as interference, his determination may have created tensions, in particular with Stefano Domenicali, whom the President of the FIA holds today to minimize. What has changed since? Does he feel stronger or have the latent conflicts with the F1 Group forced him to review some of his positions?

Hello President. Do you feel comfortable in your role at the FIA today?

It’s a long trip. There is always a lot to do to develop the sport. It’s constant work, a real marathon.

Is sport where you want it after seventeen months of presidency?

No not yet. And even if it did, there would be new battles to fight, because the challenge is permanent. When you are the FIA, the regulator, the trustee of an authority, you are responsible for so many things. It’s not easy. This involves managing regulations that are constantly changing. The challenges – economic, political, technological, societal, etc. – change and must be anticipated. We can’t just wait for them to show up and react.

You have decided to take a step back, delegating the day-to-day management of the institution. For what ?
