President of the Board María Guardiola Criticized for “Empty Words” and “Pure Marketing” in End-of-Year Speech – Unidas por Extremadura Spokesperson Calls Speech “Hypocritical” and “Deceptive”

The spokesperson for Unidas por Extremadura, Irene de Miguel, has criticized that the end-of-year speech offered by the president of the Board, María Guardiola, is full of “empty words” and “pure marketing.”

According to De Miguel, “we are not at all surprised by this speech by Mrs. Guardiola, full of hypocrisy, half-truths and with which she tries to cover up the year in which she came to the Government of the Junta de Extremadura after lying to all Extremadurans, agreeing with the extreme right. Her speech is empty words from a president who is pure marketing.

Furthermore, he added that “Mrs. Guardiola began her speech by emphasizing culture. While she tries to value it in front of the gallery, this year has been the year in which the Popular Party has censored plays in our region, so Mrs. Guardiola is off to a bad start again.

In this sense, he considered that it is also “striking” that the president wanted to begin her end-of-year speech by highlighting culture, while it has been one of the “victims of cuts” in regional budgets.

Specifically, De Miguel recalled that PP and Vox have cut cultural promotion and cooperation by 1.11 percent, or in theater, cinema and music by 17 percent, while increasing the budget for bullfighting by 800 percent, he points out in press release United for Extremadura.

Unidas por Extremadura adds that, “for the Popular Party and Vox, culture is not museums, it is bullfighting, animal torture. “If it had been consistent with supporting the budgets, I would have recorded his speech in a bullring.”

Along with this, De Miguel has stated that “while Mrs. Guardiola talks about the conflict in Gaza, she has cut humanitarian aid to zero”, which represents “authentic hypocrisy.”

WITHOUT MEASURES

The spokesperson for Unidas por Extremadura stressed that the president has spoken about change in the region and her “alleged concern” about the price of rents and citizens’ mortgages, among other material issues.

However, he reproaches that “there is not a single measure in his budget to limit the price of rentals or to commit to the creation of a large public housing stock that covers all corners of Extremadura.”

According to De Miguel, “again, Mrs. Guardiola shows a very hypocritical speech, where she says one thing and does the opposite at the moment of truth,” ensuring that “those who have truly seen their economic situation improve in the region have been the rich, who have been exempted from having to pay the estate tax for example, or housing speculators.

The spokesperson has criticized that “Mrs. Guardiola, while also talking about her supposed concern about climate change, has brought climate change deniers into her government, the Vox gentlemen, who are a real problem for the development of the mountains, of fields and protected spaces. Denialist speeches that are not only heard through the mouths of her partners on the extreme right, but also come from members of her own party.

De Miguel has questioned “the hypocrisy of Mrs. Guardiola when talking about her alleged commitment to the principle of solidarity and balance between regions, when the Popular Party is breaking these principles in those communities where it governs, turning the country into a battle by those who offer the lowest taxes for the rich and seriously endanger the survival of the welfare state and basic services, as is happening with the model of Mrs. Ayuso and Mr. Moreno Bonilla, and now with Mrs. Guardiola here in Estremadura”.

In this regard, he clarified that this week the Popular Party and Vox have rejected his group’s proposal in the Assembly to request the forgiveness of part of the debt and interest of Extremadura with the State.

Regarding the reference to sexist violence, the spokesperson for Unidas por Extremadura has denounced that “Mrs Guardiola will be remembered for being the president who eliminated the Ministry of Equality and introduced deniers of gender violence into her Government”, asking to “stop playing” with a topic “as serious and sensitive” as this one.

Irene de Miguel has criticized “the false pactist and negotiating speech of Mrs. Guardiola, who has stated that she reaches out to the rest of the political parties with representation in the Assembly of Extremadura, when in reality this legislature has been the first, for example, in which the Junta Government has not sat down with the opposition to dialogue when presenting the budgets.

And, he has concluded that “Mrs. Guardiola’s speech begins with lies and hypocrisy and ends the same. A speech that is out of date and depleted of credibility when he has only been in government for a few months.
