President of Saudi Club “Al-Nasr” Resigns Amid Fan Pressure and Two Consecutive Defeats

President of the Saudi club “Al-Nasr” Musalli Al-Muammar resigned from his post, sending a statement to the Ministry of Sports of Saudi Arabia.

The resignation of the head of the club from Riyadh was associated with strong pressure from the fans after two defeats in a row during the week.

“Al-Nasr” with the participation of the star Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo lost to Al-Hilal with a score of 0:2. This allowed Al-Ittihad, the leaders of the Saudi Arabian championship, to increase their lead to six points. Al-Nasr was also eliminated from the Saudi Cup after losing 0-1 in the semi-final game against Al-Wehda.

Added fuel to the fire was the situation with the scandalous words that he allegedly said Al-Mu’ammar in an interview with ArabiaNews50:

“I have only been lied to twice in my life. The first time I asked for three kebabs and they only gave me two. The second time – when signing a contract with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The alleged kebab claim quickly went viral. However, Mundo Deportivo points out that these words were not, and the quote is an invention. However, the situation at the club remains tense and the president has resigned.

Al-Muammar’s resignation is expected to be accepted within the next two days and the current board of directors to be dissolved. The club’s general secretary will most likely be tasked with running the club’s affairs for the coming period, and then setting a date for a general meeting and launching Al Nasr presidential nominations before the end of the current season.

Musalli Al-Muammar (pictured), formerly head of the Saudi Football Professional League, took over as head of the club on 1 April 2021, succeeding Safwan Al Suweiket.
