President of LaLiga presents a proposal for a management model for the Brazilian league | soccer

Executives from Serie A and B clubs of the Brazilian Championship met this Tuesday, in São Paulo, with the president of LaLiga (Spanish Football League), Javier Tebas, and representatives of the companies XP Investimentos and Alvarez & Marsal. According to the event’s press office, only Palmeiras did not appear among the big clubs.

The Spanish manager showed the clubs a proposal for the organization and administration of the league that could be created in Brazil. There was an expectation of the presentation of an investor to buy 25% of the national league, but that did not happen.

In his presentation, Tebas detailed how the model for dividing revenues from broadcasting rights in Spain and England is and presented a suggestion for the future Brazilian league. According to him, the ideal would be to distribute the money as follows between the clubs:

  • 50% equally;
  • 25% according to performance;
  • 25% according to exposure and audience (including stadium occupancy).

The suggestion is that revenues from international broadcasting rights should also be shared equally between clubs.

According to Tebas, one of the main challenges is to create a model so that the minimum amount distributed equally is at least equal to the current one.

LaLiga would not participate in the financial part of the project, which would be on behalf of XP. It would be up to the Spanish group to use the experience in the organization and operational capacity, being guarantor of the model to be implemented in Brazil.

– At La Liga, we aim to help the development of football and its industry. With the proposal that we are making together with XP and Alvarez & Marsal, we want to offer, in Brazil, all the knowledge that we have acquired over the years to propose a business model that is financially and administratively adequate to bet on the growth of football. in Brazil. Today we present to Brazilian clubs a proposal that includes the best practices of LaLiga and how we managed to be one of the most effective sports competitions in terms of business development and financial stability – said Javier Tebas, in a press release.

Last week, the clubs managed to advance together with the CBF for the creation of the. The teams accepted the maintenance of the distribution of the weight of the votes of each category in the entity’s elections. In return, the CBF pledged to support the creation of a league.

– This presentation was very interesting, with Javier Tebas — so experienced in the area. LaLiga has an established model throughout the world of football. Now, let’s listen to other players in the market and discuss the best options among clubs. Our attitude towards the CBF was also important, because the league is irreversible – said Julio Casares, president of São Paulo.

LaLiga arrives to compete with two other companies that since last year have been in contact with clubs interested in the league, such as Codajas Sports Kapital, associated with BTG. In November last year, some clubs even signed a term of commitment with Codajas for attracting investments and founding the league, but the financial proposal did not go ahead. A meeting with the group is expected in the coming days.
