President of FAČR Condemns Scandalous Verdict by Referee in ČFL Match: Uncompromising Conclusions Expected

The president of the Football Association of the Czech Republic (FAČR) Petr Fousek condemned in a statement on the X social network, formerly Twitter, the scandalous verdict of referee Michal Paták in Sunday’s ČFL third division match between Admira Prague and B-team České Budějovice (2:1). The former first-league referee blew the whistle in the opening act for a home penalty after an alleged foul. Fousek expects that the commission of referees dealing with the third league will draw uncompromising conclusions from this. The commission will meet on Tuesday evening.

From the recording circulating on social networks, it is evident that České Budějovice’s Jakub Pařízek cleanly robbed home midfielder Filip Koutecký of the ball in the penalty area. To the surprise of all the actors, Paták then whistled a penalty kick, from which Miroslav Horák made it 2:0.

“In connection with this particular video and match, I have been legitimately contacted by many people from the football environment. What I saw is completely unacceptable. We will in no way compromise the efforts for the credibility of football, which we have been fighting for for two years. The Third League (ČFL) falls within the competence of the steering committee for the Czech Republic and its committee of referees, but I clearly expect that these committees will draw uncompromising conclusions in this case,” said Fousek.

Admira also issued a statement on the situation on its website. “Football club FK Admira Praha expresses its regret and at the same time distances itself from the sequence of events at the end of the first half of the match of the 3rd round of the ČFL. We consider the controversial decision on the penalty kick and especially the setting of the time beyond the basic playing time of the first half to be very unfortunate. This media coverage is very the spread event unfairly devalues the performance of our team in the match and above all undeservedly casts a very bad light on the club FK Admira Praha as such,” said the club from Kobylis.

During 13 seasons in the first league, the 47-year-old Paták refereed 185 matches and acted as a goal referee at the 2016 European Championship in France. In July of the same year, the commission of referees led by Pole Michal Listkiewicz removed him from the roster for the first and second leagues due to several controversial decisions. He subsequently joined Příbrami as sports director.
