José Alberto Alas was a defender in the case where the former first lady Ana Ligia de Saca is prosecuted.
The president of the National Council for the Administration of Assets (CONAB), José Alberto Alas Gudiel, who was a lawyer for the Saca family, left the editorial line of the Samix radio group, owned by the family of former president Antonio Saca.
Alas, until the day of his appointment as president of the institution, defender in the case “Uncover Corruption II” where the former first lady and also a shareholder of Samix is prosecuted, Ana Ligia de Saca, for the crime of money laundering.
The official’s reaction comes after the publication of a journalistic note in July this year in which it was pointed out that the government defined and directed some content of the confiscated media corresponding to the Samix group.

In this regard, El Diario de Hoy managed to obtain a response from both the president and the executive director of Conab, but both stated that they would not give statements on the matter.
Conab manages 13 radio stations and other companies of former President Saca, who was sentenced in September 2018 to ten years in prison for the crimes of money laundering and embezzlement (appropriation of public funds) in an abbreviated trial in the Second Court of Sentence.
He admitted the crimes to reduce his sentence.
Interference in the editorial line
Through a note on July 30, this medium explained that at the beginning of July, the newspaper La Página, administered by the National Council for the Administration of Assets (CONAB), published a note in which Carlos Martínez, journalist of El Faro, of having committed a sexual assault during a celebration meeting between a group of journalists, which is described by José Luis Sanz, director of El Faro as “part of a political strategy to attack independent journalism.”
But the CONAB recently dissociated itself from any interference in this regard in any particular case.
“The managing body has nothing to do with the editorial line of each media outlet, the function of CONAB is established in Article 74 of the Special Law on Domain Extinction, our only objective as managing body is the profitability of the assets and they will be the managers, or commands down; or the editors in charge of each communication medium who decide the editorial line, “said Alas in the statement.
The official added that the entity he directs has nothing to do with the editorial line of the radios because they only manage the assets together with a board of directors in which the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Supreme Court of Justice participate ( CSJ) according to the CONAB law that was established a few years ago to handle confiscated assets in different trials.
