Reaction from Joël Gullon, president of Bièvre Isère Community and mayor of La Côte-Saint-André
I would like to express my satisfaction with today’s announcement by the President of the Republic concerning the opening of 200 new gendarmerie brigades in our country. It is with pleasure that I learned that one of these brigades, the mobile brigade, will be established in La Côte Saint-André.
This news is the fruit of determined and stubborn work on my part since November 2022; date of the first meeting where the subject of the arrival of a gendarmerie brigade was raised. Subsequently, other meetings were organized and Bièvre Isère put together a file and applied to host a new brigade.
For 11 months, I tirelessly appealed to the competent authorities to obtain a favorable response to our request. Today, this answer finally arrives, and I am happy with this decision.
I am now impatiently awaiting the precise terms of installation of this mobile brigade (date, human and logistical resources, etc.), and I would like to assure you that I will remain attentive and vigilant throughout this process.
However, it is crucial to emphasize that this news is also an important sign for our rural youth. It demonstrates the concern to protect it against the challenges of delinquency which can be similar to those encountered in an urban environment.
This decision benefits all the municipalities of Bièvre Isère and even beyond the intercommunity. It thus strengthens our territory as a “geographic rural center” between Lyon, Grenoble and Valence.
Furthermore, this initiative fits perfectly into our municipal prevention policies already in place with 3 multi-municipal police forces.
I am already ready to welcome this new gendarmerie brigade because premises are already available. It will be a major asset for the security and protection of our population.
