Hanoi (VNA) – President Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived on September 21, around 8:15 p.m. (local time), at the JF Kennedy International Airport in New York City of the United States, starting his participation in the 76th session of the Assembly General of the United Nations and its activities in United States
from September 21 to 24.

Cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations has helped to protect and promote national interests, in particular the maintenance and consolidation of a peaceful, secure and favorable environment for national development. The collaboration has also helped Vietnam to integrate more deeply and widely in the world, and to improve the position and image of the country on the international stage.
Vietnam has sent a total of 243 officers to United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York, and has deployed three field hospitals from level 2 in South Sudan.
The UN also holds Vietnam in high regard in terms of the percentage of women in peacekeeping operations (12%).
Vietnam officially won the elections to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-2021 term after securing 192 votes out of the 193 members of theHIM-HER-IT.
The country has actively and proactively contributed to joint UNSC activities, strived to promote bilateral relations with UNSC members and continued its role as a non-permanent member of the UNSC and chair of ASEAN 2020 in same time.
During his stay in the United States until September 24, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to attend the opening ceremony of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the World Summit on COVID-19 having the theme “Ending the pandemic and building back better”.
He will have bilateral meetings with the leaders of the countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly, dialogues with the leaders of many large groups and companies in the United States, to call on them to invest more in Vietnam. – VNA
