Ancient Wisdom for Modern Wellness: President Murmu Highlights Ayurveda’s Potential
President Droupadi Murmu, addressing the 75th anniversary celebration of Gopabandhu Ayurveda College, championed the importance of Ayurveda in addressing modern healthcare needs.
In her remarks, President Murmu emphasized that "Research is capable of proving the scientific basis of any method." She urged Ayurveda students to delve into research, stating, "Evidence builds trust among people and trust widens the path of acceptance."
Drawing from her own tribal heritage, the President shared her awareness of traditional medicinal practices used by indigenous communities. "Some elder tribal people know about various diseases and the herbs needed to treat them," she noted. Concerned that "this traditional knowledge is slowly disappearing," she encouraged students to explore the scientific foundation of these methods, preserving valuable knowledge and potentially benefiting society at large.
President Murmu highlighted the wealth of Ayurvedic wisdom found in Odisha’s palm leaf manuscripts, preserved at the State Museum and even in private homes. "Apart from literature," she shared, "there are descriptions of medical methods in those palm-leaf manuscripts." Encouraging further exploration, she urged researchers to "bring our hidden treatment methods to the public by doing research."
President Murmu concluded by acknowledging the global interest in Yoga and Ayurveda, promoting a holistic approach to health. "By maintaining a balanced diet, we can stay healthy," she advised. "Yoga can help to keep diseases at bay," adding the powerful adage, "Be Yoga Yukta to remain Roga Mukta" – "remain connected with Yoga to be free from diseases."
Joining the President at the event were dignitaries including Odisha Governor Raghubar Das and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
