President Milei will veto projects that threaten fiscal balance

Buenos Aires., Argentine President Javier Milei said on Sunday during the presentation of the 2025 budget project in Congress that his government will veto any law that affects fiscal balance.

“We will veto all projects that threaten fiscal balance,” said the president, adding that “the only context in which we will agree to discuss an increase in spending is when the request comes with an express explanation of which budget item needs to be reduced to cover it. If not, it will be vetoed.”

Milei took office last December with the promise of defeating inflation, maintaining a balance in public accounts and lifting current restrictions on the foreign exchange market, for which he implemented a profound plan to deregulate the economy.

The Argentine president also explained that he intends for his budget project to establish a fiscal balance regardless of the future of the economy.

“This budget project that we are presenting here today has a methodology that guarantees fiscal balance regardless of the economic scenario. This means that, regardless of what happens with the economy at the macro level, the fiscal result of the national public sector will be balanced,” said Milei.
