President Mattarella inaugurates Pesaro as Italian Capital of Culture

PESARO – We are here and “the emotion is great, we can’t wait” as the mayor Matteo Ricci says. Adrenaline, finishing touches and a pinch of superstition. Gentlemen in carriages. This morning the year of Pesaro as the Italian Capital of Culture begins, with the inauguration with great pomp with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the great protagonist greeted “like a rock star” (Ricci’s words again) by the 8 thousand-odd Vitrifrigo (including 2 thousand students). The curtain rises from 11am with an exceptional presenter, the eclectic Paolo Bonolis.

The program

The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live on Rai3 and streaming starting from 11.15am. While waiting for the Head of State, who will arrive after the ribbon cutting at the Giovanni Santi auditorium in Vallefoglia (and the mayor Palmiro Ucchielli is gloating), the Olimpia Orchestra will lead the way. It is an all-female formation, born in 2018 from an idea by Roberta Pandolfi and Francesca Perrotta, made up entirely of women. He will have the task of lighting up the morning starting with the Mameli Hymn in the presence of President Mattarella, followed by the symphony of “La Gazza Ladra” by Rossini. The musical moment will be followed by institutional greetings, with the mayor Matteo Ricci, the president of the Region Francesco Acquaroli, the councilor for Beauty Daniele Vimini, the minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano. Then the special testimonials (but Senator for life Liliana Segre will not be there). There will be no shortage of special effects with the video performance that will involve the public and will be projected on the steps of the Arena with “The Human Cell Atlas” in collaboration with CERN in Geneva, born from the idea of creating an artistic self-portrait of humanity with artificial intelligence and big data. A project that brought together an international community of biologists, clinicians, physicists, scientists, software engineers and mathematicians. The long-awaited speech by the Head of State concludes.

What happens

After the morning, the gates will then reopen from 4pm for the concerts. The first to perform at 5pm will be Max Gazzè, then at 8pm Mirco Casadei’s orchestra. To conclude the evening from 10.30pm “Once a year”, a paid show with a performance by Rosa Chemical, musicians and DJs. On the social network, the preview greeting from Mirko Casadei: «Our eight elements of the Popoular Folk Orchestra will give joy and lightness – so Casadei, in his video message – my return to Pesaro comes just a few months after the summer event the Night of Candles . But this will be a completely different atmosphere and a completely different emotion. An incredible and unforgettable day for everyone. We will be there with our classics and the celebration brought by the popular culture of our land.” Rosa Chemical also sent a greeting to the city. Between extravagance, freedom to express diversity, rap and trap, musical tastes of “generation Z”, this will be her performance. Yesterday, after the debut of Claudio Baglioni’s tour, which attracted 10 thousand spectators, Vitrifrigo worked non-stop to set up the presidential stage and the shows. The choreography and scenography are ensured with a large LED wall on which video projections, special effects and performers will flow. Not only the organized machine but also the order service is impressive.

The Prefecture

Late yesterday evening the provincial supervisory commission for public entertainment venues met, with the coordination of the Prefecture, at Vitrifrigo to verify compliance with the security and safety regulations of the event. «I am certain – underlined the prefect Emanuela Saveria Greco – that, given the commitment of all those who contributed to the realization of the day and above all the enthusiasm of the citizens and of the many boys and girls who will participate and who await with great affection the visit of our President, the inaugural event will be an exciting challenge for the entire community.” Very strict timetables due to Quirinale ceremonial and security issues: this morning you will enter by 10am and to get to the Arena we recommend using the shuttle buses which will leave from San Decenzio every 15 minutes from 8.30am to 9.15am.
