President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that he plans to strengthen his Cabinet by appointing competent individuals who lost in the previous national and local elections once the one-year appointment ban lapses. In an interview with the media delegation accompanying him to the US, he stated that he has a shortlist of names for various posts but declined to reveal them, saying that he wanted to speak with the candidates personally. According to Article IX-B, Section 6 of the 1987 Constitution, no candidate who lost in any election could be appointed to any office in the government or any government-owned or controlled corporations or in any of their subsidiaries within one year after the polls. The president intends to add people to the Cabinet by the second year of his term, affirming his commitment to fill his administration with capable officials.
