President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the distribution of cash aid and livelihood grants to nearly 1,000 families in Pola, Oriental Mindoro province. The aid was distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as part of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program, providing funds from the Emergency Cash Transfers and food and cash assistance. Each family received P20,054 to help them recover from the oil spill that left many fisherfolk struggling to make ends meet. Additionally, 391 people received livelihood grants worth P10.3 million from the Department of Labor and Employment’s Integrated Livelihood Program, and other households received P10,000 worth of livelihood kits from the Department of Trade and Industry, with loan approvals also provided by the state-owned Small Business Corp. The DSWD’s cash grant was part of the humanitarian assistance, worth over P223 million, given to affected families in Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Antique, and Palawan since the oil spill incident in February. The president assured the fisherfolk that the national government will continue to assist them until they recover from the effects of the oil spill, and long-term plans are in place to help their recovery.
