President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued an update regarding the preparation for the commemoration of the 125th Philippine independence anniversary on June 12. In Administrative Order 8, he ordered the formation of an interagency committee to facilitate the planning and execution of programs and projects for the event. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will lead the committee with the support of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Other participating government agencies are the Department of Tourism, Department of Education, Department of National Defense, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Budget and Management, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Transportation, and the Metro Manila Development Authority. The NHCP and participating government agencies will draw funds for the event. Following the “Strengthening Peoples’ Nationalism Through Philippine History Act” (Republic Act 10086), the state shall provide the means to encourage people’s nationalism, love of country, respect for heroes, and pride for accomplishments by reinforcing the importance of Philippine national and local history in daily life to raise social consciousness.
