Paris –
President of France Emmanuel Macron says it supports Ukraine and wants Russia to be defeated. However, he did not want Russia to be destroyed.
Reporting from AFP, Macron in an interview released Saturday (18/2/2023(), said he wanted Russia to be defeated in the war with Ukraine, but not “crushed.”
Macron made this statement after returning from the Munich Security Conference, Germany. In which, he urged allies to intensify their support for Ukraine, and said France was ready for a protracted conflict.
“I want Russia to be defeated in Ukraine, and I want Ukraine to be able to hold its ground,” he told French newspapers JDD and Le Figaro and broadcaster France Inter.
“I believe that, in the end, this will not end militarily,” he added.
Emmanuel Macron predicts that neither side can completely win in the conflict.
But he didn’t, like some, want the fight to take place on Russian soil. Such people, he said, “want above all to destroy Russia.
“This has never been the position of France and it never will be.”
