President Macron tacitly changed color of French flag

A year ago, the blue in the French flag suddenly changed color. President Macron liked a dark shade better. After consultation with his advisers, the flag was adapted and hoisted on almost all official buildings, such as the presidential palace (Élysée), at the National Assembly and a number of ministries.

The introduction of the new flag went smoothly until a political reporter from the radio station Europe 1 suddenly something stood out: the blue in the French flag no longer matched the blue of the European flag. In 1976, then-President Giscard d’Estaing had the color changed so that the French flag would henceforth better match that of the European Union.

Inquiries at the Élysée revealed that Macron had indeed adjusted the color with his own hands. From now on, the flag had to look like it did before 1976. The president had purely aesthetic reasons for this, the Élysée said immediately. There were no anti-European feelings behind the decision. Important to emphasize, because as of January 1, France will take over the presidency of the European Union from Slovenia.
