President Klaus Iohannis signed the law that allows family doctors to transform their offices into “health units of public utility”.
Decree on the promulgation of the Law amending and supplementing Law no. 95/2006 on health reform (PL-x 389/06.06.2023);
The change in status will allow doctors to work at other practices, so that, if they provide a norm of at least 10 hours a week, they can offer consultations in several localities.
This law especially helps the rural area, as there are many localities where there are no doctors.
According to the data provided by the Federation of Family Physicians’ Associations, according to which 328 communes in Romania do not have any family doctor, 559,611 inhabitants of Romania do not have a family doctor in the commune where they live, while only 1,496 localities from Romania (47%) has enough family doctors.
