President Jokowi’s Yellow Tie Sparks Speculation on Political Allegiances in Indonesia

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attracted attention when wearing a yellow tie when leaving for Japan for a bilateral visit. Director of Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI) Adi Prayitno said Jokowi was a figure who was difficult to predict with his political symbols.

“Jokowi’s political symbols are the most difficult to predict. They often change and have multiple interpretations. Only Jokowi knows exactly the color symbols that are often used,” Adi told reporters, Sunday (17/12/2023).

Adi said that the political direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia was difficult for the public to predict. He touched on Jokowi’s closeness to the PDIP, which he considered to be starting to grow apart.

“Including that the public has misread the political maneuvers in the presidential election for a long time. When everyone believed that Jokowi would continue with PDIP, in fact at the end of the game Jokowi seemed to have parted ways with PDIP,” said Adi.

“Jokowi is not alone in conveying political messages. They are always varied and colorful. Jokowi’s political meaning always has wings,” he continued.

Adi Prayitno said all parties were just waiting to see where Jokowi’s politics would take him. He talked about the possibility of the Indonesian leader changing direction to the PSI or Golkar Party.

“We just have to wait and see where Jokowi ends up. Will he stay with PDIP or move to another party? It’s very complicated. There are those who link Jokowi with PSI because PSI carries the jargon of Jokowism,” said Adi.

“There are also those who link it to Gerindra, and others. Recently, Golkar elites have started to comment that Jokowi is starting to become identified with the yellow party,” he said.

As previously reported, Jokowi went to Japan to attend several bilateral meetings. Jokowi’s suit while at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, East Jakarta, attracted attention.

Before leaving, on Saturday (16/12), Jokowi delivered a press statement at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Pramono Anung, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

President Jokowi wore a blue jacket and white shirt. President Jokowi also added a yellow tie to complement his suit.

Not as usual, Jokowi wore a yellow tie. Journalists who were present also asked Jokowi why he was wearing a yellow tie.

“What does yellow tie mean, sir?” asked the reporter.

Hearing this question, Jokowi immediately looked at his tie. Minister of State Secretary Pratikno laughed while Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Pramono Anung smiled.

Jokowi also held his tie. “I don’t know,” said Jokowi with a smile and then left.
