President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Abbas asked Jokowi to convey a message to the President of the United States (US) Joe Biden.
It is known that Jokowi immediately left for the US after attending the OIC Summit and will meet with Biden. Jokowi and his entourage took off from King Khalid International Airport at around 09.40 local time.
“On the sidelines of the meeting, the President held a meeting with President Abbas to convey Indonesia’s support for the Palestinian struggle again. President Abbas really appreciates Indonesia’s consistency in providing support to the Palestinian struggle,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi in her statement, Sunday (12/11/2023).
“President Abbas also asked President Jokowi to convey a message to the US during his meeting with President Biden in Washington DC on November 13,” he continued.
Then, Retno said that Jokowi also met with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein. Both agreed to request that the Israeli ceasefire be terminated.
“Mr President also held a meeting with the King of Jordan. Jordan and Indonesia have the same position on the Palestinian issue, including in responding to the humanitarian catastrophe that occurred in Gaza. The President of the Republic of Indonesia and the King of Jordan reiterated three important things: a ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, and the importance of restarting the process towards peace two-state solution,” he said.
Then, Jokowi also met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the OIC Summit. Both agreed to complete the Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations.
“The President had the opportunity to meet with the President of Turkey. The two Presidents agreed that Indonesia and Turkey would continue to work together on the issue of Gaza and the future of Palestine. The two Presidents also agreed that Indonesia and Turkey could immediately complete negotiations on the Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) before the end of 2024,” he said.

Seen to see off President Jokowi at the airport were the Deputy Governor of Riyadh Amir Mohammad bin Abdurrahman, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz Ahmad, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amudi, and the Defense Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh Brigadier General TNI Putut Witjaksono.
