President Jokowi Urges House of Representatives to Resolve Asset Forfeiture Bill

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged the House of Representatives to immediately resolve Asset Forfeiture Bill. He emphasized that the discussion process is currently underway in the DPR.

“The Asset Confiscation Bill is indeed an initiative from the government and we continue to push for it to be completed by the DPR soon,” Jokowi said after inspecting the Johar Baru Market, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (5/4/2023).

“And this process is already underway,” he added.

Jokowi hopes that the Asset Confiscation Law will later facilitate processes in prosecuting criminal acts of corruption. Confiscation of corruptor’s assets, he said, will also have a clear legal umbrella with the law.

“I hope that the Asset Confiscation Law will make it easier for processes, especially corruption cases to be resolved after being proven because the legal umbrella is clear,” he said.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md has also asked Commission III of the House of Representatives to immediately pass two bills, namely related to asset confiscation and restrictions on currency transactions. However, the answer from the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Bambang Wuryanto or Bambang Pacul, was in the spotlight because he talked about the need to lobby the general chairman in ratifying it.

“Pak Mahfud asked us, ‘please help with the Asset Confiscation Bill live it‘. Republic here is easy, sir, in this Senayan. The lobby is not here sir. It’s here obey their respective bosses,” Pacul said in a meeting with Commission III of the DPR and the Coordinating National Committee for the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering Crimes (KNK-PP-TPPU) at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/3).

Pacul’s statement then became the spotlight. Mahfud thought that Bambang Pacul was only joking. According to him, Bambang Pacul was indeed a figure who liked to joke.

“Yes, just joking, I think,” said Mahfud after filling in the ‘Lesehan Study of Ramadhan Bil Jami’ah 1444 H’ at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Mosque on Saturday (1/4), as reported by detikJatengSunday (2/4).
