President Joko Widodo called the General Leader of PAN who is also the Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan met face to face at the palace to discuss the 2024 presidential election.
Zulhas came with other ministers who participated in a limited meeting about food storage (food estate). However, he only left at around 11.15 WIB, when the other ministers had long left the palace.
Zulhas said the political matters discussed with Jokowi were about preparations for the registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates. There was also another discussion regarding the working area of the Ministry of Trade.
“The third is regarding political matters. Yes, this is close, we have to register on 19-25 (October),” said Zulhas after meeting Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/10).
Zulhas emphasized that he was the president’s assistant. Therefore, he always reports the things he does to Jokowi, including PAN’s political plans.
He said the meeting with Jokowi was only limited to reporting. According to him, there was no specific direction from Jokowi regarding PAN’s future political maneuvers.
Zulhas did not admit whether the meeting with Jokowi discussed the name of Gibran Rakabuming Raka who was included in Prabowo Subianto’s running mate or not. He only praised Gibran’s achievements.
“Oh, Gibran is cool, the mayor is successful, anything is successful, but I’m proposing Mr. Erick (as Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate),” he said.
Currently, PAN has joined the Advanced Indonesia Coalition supporting Prabowo Subianto. They are in coalition with the Gerindra Party, Golkar Party, PBB and Gelora Party.
From the start, PAN carried the name of BUMN Minister Erick Thohir as vice presidential candidate. However, Prabowo’s coalition has not yet determined the name of a vice presidential candidate at this time.
