TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Jokowi held a meeting with the General Chair of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Sunday evening, February 18 2024. The meeting between the two took place behind closed doors.
Secretary General of the NasDem Party Hermawi Taslim said Surya Paloh’s presence was at the invitation of President Jokowi. “The presence of NasDem Chairman Pak Surya Paloh at the State Palace is to fulfill President Jokowi’s dinner invitation,” said Hermawi Taslim in his statement on Sunday, February 18 2024.
This refutes the statement by Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana. Previously, Ari said that Surya Paloh’s presence at the State Palace tonight, Sunday, February 18 2024, was not due to a call from President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi. According to Ari, the meeting between the two took place because of Surya Paloh’s request.
“The President received Mr Surya Paloh tonight at the Merdeka Palace. “Previously, Mr. Surya Paloh submitted a request to appear before the President,” said Ari via short message. Ari conveyed this some time after the meeting ended.
Jokowi, said Ari, responded to the request to meet by inviting Surya Paloh to the Palace. Ari said the Head of State allocated time on Sunday evening to meet Surya Paloh.

“In response to this request, Mr President allocated time to receive Mr Surya Paloh last evening at the Merdeka Palace,” said Ari. He revealed that the meeting lasted approximately one hour.
Ari said Jokowi and Surya Paloh discussed various things at the meeting, including political dynamics and elections. Apart from the election, Ari said the two of them discussed other things such as the problem of facing various global challenges.
