President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) discussed fertilizer complaints from farmers during a visit to Central Java (Central Java). Vice presidential candidate (Cawapres) number 3, Mahfud Mddon’t mind it.
“I don’t know. It’s up to me, I don’t want to think whether it’s a defense or not. The president has the right to make visits,” said Mahfud Md when met at the Teuku Umar 9 Command Post, Central Jakarta, Thursday (14/12/2023).
This was conveyed by Mahfud when asked for his response regarding Jokowi discussing the fertilizer issue after presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo was asked about fertilizer difficulties in Central Java in the first debate by presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto. Mahfud emphasized that Ganjar, who is the former Governor of Central Java, had answered that the fertilizer problem did not only occur in Central Java.

“Indeed, Mr. Ganjar is right, why is fertilizer scarce in Central Java, what about farmers? Mr. Ganjar’s answer is correct, it’s not only in Central Java, (but) in NTT, North Sumatra and other provinces that the lack of fertilizer means it’s not the governor’s fault. That’s a more centralized policy. “That’s the logical answer. Why is it that Central Java is being asked, in Papua too, in NTT too, in North Sumatra too, everywhere too,” said Mahfud.
Jokowi previously gave directions regarding fertilizer to agricultural instructors and Babinsa throughout Central Java in Pekalongan on Wednesday (13/12). Jokowi said the government would carry out regular monitoring in the field.
“Returning to farmer matters, Mr. Minister of Agriculture said, regarding fertilizer, Mr. Minister of Agriculture has already been able to provide fertilizer in 2024, late 2023 and early 2024. He will continue to control it so that there are no problems in the field. I will increase the fertilizer subsidy, because the fertilizer supply is also there is,” said Jokowi.
However, Jokowi has not spoken about the subsidy figure. He said he would calculate it first and submit it to the DPR RI. Jokowi admitted that he understands the recent problems of farmers who complain about fertilizer. He confirmed that he would complete the fertilizer issue.
“In matters of fertilizer, because I understand this, the Minister of Agriculture is also a former PPL (field agricultural instructor), I also go into the rice fields and villages every day to ask farmers, the problem is that in recent years everyone has complained about fertilizer, is that true? “Is there a problem with fertilizer that is not a problem, point the finger? I will give you a bicycle, the fertilizer issue will be the focus of the Minister of Agriculture and we will solve it, agreed?” he said.
