President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) alludes to the figure of “Pak Lurah” regarding the presidential and vice presidential candidates in the presidential election or 2024 presidential election.
Jokowi admitted that he was surprised who the figure of “Pak Lurah” was conveyed by the politicians. Later he learned that the figure of the Lurah was in fact him.
“For each presidential and vice presidential candidate, the answer is, ‘There is no directive from the Lurah.’ I thought, who is this Lurah? Little by little, Pak Lurah. Later I found out what the Lurah meant was me,” Jokowi said in the MPR Annual Session at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/8).
Jokowi emphasized that he had no role in the presidential election. He did not want to interfere because the election process is the business of political parties.
Jokowi also repeated a statement some time ago and emphasized again that he was not the chairman of a political party.
“I am not Pak Lurah, I am the President of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Jokowi.
“It turns out that the Lurah is Mr. Code. But I need to emphasize, I am not the general chairman of a political party, nor am I the chairman of a coalition of parties, and in accordance with the provisions of the law that determine presidential and vice presidential candidates, those are political parties and coalitions of political parties,” he added.
Previously, Jokowi was often associated with the 2024 presidential election. He was said to be directing support to several presidential candidates.
Jokowi did participate in the declaration of the PDIP presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo. Jokowi also several times mentioned Prabowo Subianto as his minister who would become a presidential candidate.
