President Joe Biden Vows to Support Ukraine After Russian Undermining of Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station

President of the U.S.A Joe Biden for the first time reacted to the undermining of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Russians, promising to support Ukraine. He announced this during a conversation with reporters on June 6, transmits Voice of America.

He was asked what he could say to Russia about the blowing up of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

“We will not leave. We will help Ukraine,” Biden replied.

Earlier, White House spokesman John Kirby said that Washington had seen reports that Russia was “responsible” for undermining the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. He noted that the Russians illegally occupied the station back in 2022 and continue to control it.

“We’re doing our best to evaluate these reports,” Kirby said.

The NBC channel, citing sources, said that the White House has intelligence that confirms Russia’s responsibility for the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam.

  • On October 20, 2022, Zelensky, in a speech to the European Council, said that Ukraine had information about the Russian mining of a dam and units at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, and the occupiers had already “prepared everything” for this terrorist attack.
  • The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense also reported about the mining of the station.
  • On November 9, Zelensky warned the Russian authorities that if they tried to blow up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, this would mean declaring war on the whole world.
  • On the night of June 6, 2023, the Russian Federation blew up a hydroelectric power station in the occupied Nova Kakhovka. An evacuation has been announced. In Russia, Ukraine was blamed for the destruction of the dam. LIGA.net chronicled this event.
