MEXICO CITY, January 5 (EL UNIVERSAL).- One day before the anniversary of the assault on the Capitol in the United States, President Joe Biden said that the upcoming 2024 presidential elections have to do with American democracy.
“The choice is clear: Donald Trump’s campaign is about him, not America or you. Donald Trump’s campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future. He is willing to sacrifice our democracy and put himself in the power,” Biden said during remarks in Pennsylvania at his first campaign event of 2024.
“Our campaign aims to preserve and strengthen our American democracy,” declared the current president.
He talked about George Washington waging war against Great Britain just before the birth of the United States. He said the country’s first president was fighting for a clear mission: freedom and liberty.
“His mission, George Washington declared, was nothing less than a sacred cause. That was the phrase he used, sacred cause. Liberty, liberty, democracy. American democracy,” Biden said. The president also accused Trump and his supporters of embracing “political violence.”
Biden was scheduled to deliver remarks on Saturday, the third anniversary of the assault on the Capitol, but they were moved a day earlier due to “inclement weather,” according to the US president’s campaign.
Biden went on to say that Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election and lack of action on January 6 “was one of the worst derelictions of duty by a president in American history.”
“Imagine if he had come out and said enough. Still, Trump did nothing,” said the US president.
