President Joe Biden Announces Extension of State of Emergency in Afghanistan

US President Joe Biden announced the extension of the state of emergency regarding the widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the possibility of a deep economic collapse in that Asian country.
Biden said in a letter to Congress that he “decided to extend the emergency that would have ended on February 11, because the humanitarian crisis is widespread in Afghanistan, including the urgent needs of the people of Afghanistan for food security, livelihood support, water, sanitation, health, hygiene, and assistance in… “Shelter, among other basic humanitarian needs, and the potential for deepening economic collapse in Afghanistan pose an unusual and unusual threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.” He added, “Preserving some of the assets of the Bank of Afghanistan (DAB) located in the United States by American financial institutions is of the utmost importance to address this national emergency and the well-being of the people of Afghanistan.”
He continued, “Various parties, including representatives of victims of terrorism, have confirmed legal claims against some of DAB’s properties or have indicated in public court files their intention to file such claims,” ​​referring to the ban to which the bank is subject under a US executive order.
He explained, “These reasons made him decide that it was necessary to continue the state of national emergency declared in Executive Order No. 14064 regarding the widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the possibility of a profound economic collapse in the country.”
