The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received a delegation led by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, Adil Karaismailoglu.
According to AZERTAC, welcoming the Turkish minister, President Ilham Aliyev said:
– I am sure your visit will be successful. There are many issues to discuss. In fact, the transport sector has always been at the forefront of our agenda. After the second Karabakh war, its importance increased even more because, together with the projects we have carried out together in previous years, there are already new projects on the table. We have a very strong history of cooperation. Of course, the joint construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is of special importance. As you know, this is an important part of the East-West corridor. In recent years, the volume of cargo transported through this corridor has increased.
After the second Karabakh war, we are working on a new corridor: the Zangazur corridor. Internationally, it has already established its name as a Zangazur broker. This will provide a new connection between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
As you know, in the early stages after the war, Armenia protested this issue. However, I have recently been informed that the Armenian side is already adequately analyzing the issues related to the inevitability of this corridor. As you know, the discussions are taking place in a trilateral format. This issue is being discussed in the working group at the level of Deputy Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia, and good results are being obtained.
We have already started the construction of a railway from Horadiz to the Armenian border in the liberated lands. I am confident that in the next two years, maybe two and a half years, this railway will be fully operational.
Most of the Nakhchivan railway is in operation and the remaining part will also be built. All instructions have been given. A significant part of the Zangazur corridor must be built in Armenia. Thus, a new corridor will be opened and this connection between Turkey and Azerbaijan will be even stronger.
There are other issues as well, which you will discuss with your colleague. In general, I can say that this area is of great importance for both Turkey and Azerbaijan. It is an area that connects our peoples. I am sure that all agenda items will be discussed and decisions will be made during the visit. Welcome again.
Minister Adil Karaismailoglu thanked Mr. President for the warm welcome and said: “Thank you again for having us. Our esteemed President also conveys his greetings.
Yesterday we inaugurated the Camlica tower. We were there together. As you know, we hoisted the Azerbaijani flag on the Camlica tower. This aroused great respect in Turkey and around the world. It was beautiful. Our soul and friend Azerbaijan has always been our brother, our homeland. We have always viewed your success as ours. Inshallah, from now on, under the leadership of our President and His Excellency, we will always make our voice heard around the world as friends.
Our brothers visited us to discuss our projects. Inshallah, we will implement all our projects one by one following your instructions. Tomorrow we will go to the works and check the work done by our employers, we will ask them to speed up the work and do it well. Inshallah, this unity will last forever.
We are also working on the railway issue, and we have informed our President. In particular, we have completed our projects between Nakhchivan and Kars, between Kars-Aral-Dilucu. Inshallah, we will prepare them in the form of a program and together we will build this railway, a new corridor through the Nakhchivan territory.
We will hold meetings with our friends. The work of our brothers is also ours. Inshallah, we will do good things hand in hand.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked the minister for the greetings of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and asked him to convey his greetings to the President of Turkey.
Next, Minister Adil Karaismailoglu handed a sword to President Ilham Aliyev as a souvenir.
