Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Grab President Ming Maa will leave his position in April 2024. Grab’s founder praised Ming Maa highly, even comparing him to Batman.
Grab announced that Ming Maa was stepping down on Tuesday (14/11/2023). Until he officially steps down in April 2024, Maa will focus on carrying out his responsibilities in developing the company.
In a company statement, Grab mentioned Maa’s important role in the company’s journey since he joined in 2016. Several important events involving Maa were Grab’s merger with Uber Southeast Asia in 2018 and Grab’s transition process to become a public company in 2021.
“Maa is a strategic anchor in Grab’s development and through the company’s most important points. I still have her as a colleague, more importantly as a good friend,” said Grab CEO Anthony Tan.
In an internal memo cited by Tech in Asia, Tan likened Maa to Batman because she never “hesitated” when it came to “flying around the world to meet investors or partners who she believed would bring good results.”
Grab also announced the appointment of Ong Chin Yin, Chief People Officer at Grab as a new member of the company’s board of commissioners. Yin replaces Tan Hooi Ling, founder of Grab who will step down as of 31 December 2023.
Via LinkedIn, Maa explained his reasons for leaving Grab. “To be honest, my family hasn’t always been a priority in recent years. My kids are growing, I want more to be there for them,” said Maa.
