President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Roubaix (North) on Thursday to pay tribute to the three young police officers killed in a collision on Sunday with a vehicle whose driver was heavily alcoholic and drugged, the Elysee announced on Wednesday.

“This accident took place during a rescue intervention for victims, which illustrates the heart of the mission incumbent on them. An everyday mission where the police intervene to protect the French, ”explained the presidency.
Emmanuel Macron will meet the families and colleagues of the three victims for a tribute at the National Police School in Roubaix.
Sunday, four people, including these three young police officers, died during a frontal collision between the police vehicle where they were and another car, near Villeneuve-d’Ascq (North). A teenage girl taken in by the police and the passenger of the other vehicle were also seriously injured.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the offending vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction, at high speed, and its driver was positive for alcohol and narcotics.
The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, went to the police station of the city of which he was mayor on Monday, in order to honor the victims of the tragic accident which occurred the day before. He also announced that a national tribute would be paid “at the end of the week” to the three officials killed.
