President El-Sisi’s Speech on Egypt’s Plan for NEPAD Chairmanship and Climate Change Efforts

President El-Sisi is scheduled to deliver a speech in which he will review Egypt’s plan in light of its current chairmanship of the Steering Committee of Heads of State and Government of the African Development Agency (NEPAD) over the next two years.

President El-Sisi will also deliver a speech in his capacity as the current president of the United Nations Climate Conference “Cop 27” before the environment and climate change session to review Egyptian efforts in confronting the effects of climate change on the countries of the African continent, in light of Egypt’s continuous efforts to provide support and financing from developed countries and international financing institutions to provide them to African countries most affected by the repercussions of climate change.

President El-Sisi will discuss with the leaders and heads of government participating in the meeting the progress achieved in the commercial integration work program for the countries of the continent, and ways to enhance that integration, including steps related to enhancing freedom of movement and the unified African passport, and ways to link the financial markets and infrastructure of the countries of the continent.

A statement posted on the African Union website stated that the participants in the coordination meeting will discuss the establishment of a common African market to accelerate trade, agriculture, business and exchange of skills on the African continent. Commercial coordination covers a number of main axes represented in planning, adopting and implementing policies, monitoring and evaluation, resource mobilization and partnerships.

The work program of the coordination meeting also includes ways to finance Agenda 2063 of the African Union, focus on the economic recovery of the African continent, and implement initiatives aimed at addressing challenges in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, debt, climate change, security, energy, and health.
