President Duda is headed for victory after first round of elections in Poland, second round needed

Andrzej Duda, according to an exit poll, won 41.8 percent of the votes in the first round of the presidential elections in Poland. Duda is supported by the conservative governing party PiS (Law and Justice).

Because Duda will not get 50 percent of the vote, there will be a second round on July 12. In it, he will most likely have to face a direct duel against opposition candidate Rafal Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw. According to the exit poll, he received 30.4 percent of the votes.

In addition to Duda and Trzaskowski, there were nine other candidates, but they are far behind. It is estimated that 62 percent of eligible voters voted, the highest turnout ever.
