President Director of Krakatau Steel Expelled from Meeting with DPR After Debate

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk Silmy Karim was expelled from a hearing meeting with the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Commission VII DPR, Monday (14/2/2022).

The expulsion occurred after Silmy had an argument with the Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR, Bambang Haryadi, as the leader of the meeting.

“Respect this trial, there are trial technicalities, how come it seems you never respect the commission. If you can’t speak here, you’re out,” said Bambang, quoted from the Commission VII DPR RI Channel’s YouTube account, Monday.

“Okay, if we really have to go out, we’ll go out,” said Silmy.

This commotion started when Bambang commented on Silmy’s presentation about the project blast furnace or the construction of a blast furnace system steel plant.

On that occasion, Bambang admitted that he was confused because the factory for blast furnace discontinued, but on the other hand there is a desire to strengthen domestic production.

The atmosphere began to heat up when Silmy suddenly cut Bambang’s statement.

“What I’m unique about, how is the factory to blast furnace this is discontinued, but one side wants to strengthen domestic production. Don’t be a thief shouting a thief like that, you know, let’s not play, pretend we don’t play,” said Bambang.

“What do you mean thief, sir?” said Silmy interrupting Bambang’s statement.

Bambang also explained what he meant, namely that on the one hand there was a spirit to strengthen the industry, but on the one hand the industry was stopped.

Bambang then mentioned a case that was going on at Polda Metro Jaya involving a member of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA), an organization led by Silmy.
