President Chandrikapersad Santokhi Addresses United Nations General Assembly on Climate Change and Global Cooperation

President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, who attended the 78th United Nations General Assembly from September 19 to 22, returned to Suriname on Friday, September 22.

He has addressed the United Nations General Assembly and held bilateral discussions with several world leaders on the implementation of Agenda 2030 and the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. In his speech to the UN General Assembly, he focused mainly on climate change, in particular finding new financing mechanisms, and addressing aspects thereof.

The aim of this visit was to further develop Suriname’s cooperation with other countries. The president focused mainly on actions that need to be taken against climate change in our country, but also on the ever-deteriorating political, humanitarian and security situation in Haiti.
